As per the law of diminishing marginal utility, the utility of each successive unit goes on diminishing as more and more units of a commodity are consumed. A rational consumer will consume the commodity up to a point where the marginal utility of the final unit of the commodity is equal to the marginal utility of money (in terms of price) paid for it. In this way, the consumer will get the maximum satisfaction and will be in equilibrium. / ह्रासमान सीमांत उपयोगिता के नियम के अनुसार, प्रत्येक क्रमिक इकाई की उपयोगिता कम होती जाती है क्योंकि एक वस्तु की अधिक से अधिक इकाइयाँ खपत होती हैं। एक तर्कसंगत उपभोक्ता वस्तु का उपभोग उस बिंदु तक करेगा जहां वस्तु की अंतिम इकाई की सीमांत उपयोगिता उसके लिए भुगतान की गई धन की सीमांत उपयोगिता (कीमत के संदर्भ में) के बराबर है। इस तरह, उपभोक्ता को अधिकतम संतुष्टि मिलेगी और वह संतुलन में रहेगा।
