The electron is a subatomic particle with a negative elementary electric charge. An electron has a mass that is approximately 1/1836 that of the proton. The intrinsic angular momentum (spin) of the electron is a half-integer value in units of h, which means that it is a fermion. Like all matter, they have quantum mechanical properties of both particles and waves, so they can collide with other particles and can be diffracted like light. The electron was identified as a particle in 1897 by J. J. Thomson and his team of British physicists. / इलेक्ट्रॉन एक नकारात्मक प्राथमिक विद्युत आवेश वाला एक उप-परमाणु कण है। एक इलेक्ट्रॉन का द्रव्यमान प्रोटॉन के द्रव्यमान का लगभग 1/1836 होता है। इलेक्ट्रॉन का आंतरिक कोणीय संवेग (स्पिन) h की इकाइयों में आधा-पूर्णांक मान है, जिसका अर्थ है कि यह एक फ़र्मियन है। सभी पदार्थों की तरह, उनके पास कणों और तरंगों दोनों के क्वांटम यांत्रिक गुण होते हैं, इसलिए वे अन्य कणों से टकरा सकते हैं और प्रकाश की तरह विवर्तित हो सकते हैं। 1897 में जे जे थॉमसन और ब्रिटिश भौतिकविदों की उनकी टीम द्वारा इलेक्ट्रॉन की पहचान एक कण के रूप में की गई थी।
