In the wake of the increasing strain in the CentreState relations, the Parliament, in June 1983, appointed a Commission under the Chairmanship of Justice R.S. Sarkaria these go into details of the Centre-State relations and to recommend measures to make the relation efficient and cooperative. The Commission expressed the need for streamlining the provisions of the Centre-State relations. It suggested the Centre, to begin with, to relax its financial hold over the States and to give them more autonomy in this regard. / केंद्र-राज्य संबंधों में बढ़ते तनाव के मद्देनजर, संसद ने जून 1983 में, न्यायमूर्ति आर.एस. सरकारिया ये केंद्र-राज्य संबंधों के विवरण में जाते हैं और संबंध को कुशल और सहकारी बनाने के उपायों की सिफारिश करते हैं। आयोग ने केंद्र-राज्य संबंधों के प्रावधानों को सुव्यवस्थित करने की आवश्यकता व्यक्त की। इसने केंद्र को राज्यों पर अपनी वित्तीय पकड़ को कम करने और इस संबंध में उन्हें अधिक स्वायत्तता देने का सुझाव दिया।
