Organized Indian music owes its origin to the Sama Veda which was a collection (samhita) of hymns and detached verses from other Vedas, meant for recital. These hymns were sung by Udgatar priests at sacrifices in which the Soma ritual drink was offered in libation to various deities. / संगठित भारतीय संगीत की उत्पत्ति साम वेद से हुई है, जो भजनों का एक संग्रह (संहिता) था और अन्य वेदों से अलग छंद, जो कि गायन के लिए थे। इन भजनों को उदगातार पुजारियों द्वारा बलिदानों में गाया जाता था जिसमें विभिन्न देवताओं को सोम अनुष्ठान पेय की पेशकश की जाती थी।
