Under article 356 of the Indian Constitution, State emergency is declared on failure of constitutional machinery in a state. During such an emergency, the President can take over the entire work of the executive, and the Governor administers the state in the name of the President. the Legislative Assembly can be dissolved or may remain in suspended animation. The Parliament makes laws on the 66 subjects of the state list. / भारतीय संविधान के अनुच्छेद 356 के तहत किसी राज्य में संवैधानिक तंत्र के विफल होने पर राज्य में आपातकाल की घोषणा की जाती है। ऐसी आपात स्थिति के दौरान, राष्ट्रपति कार्यपालिका के संपूर्ण कार्य को अपने हाथ में ले सकता है, और राज्यपाल राष्ट्रपति के नाम पर राज्य का प्रशासन करता है। विधान सभा को भंग किया जा सकता है या निलंबित अवस्था में रह सकता है। संसद राज्य सूची के 66 विषयों पर कानून बनाती है।
