India is the second largest producer of silk (after China) in the world and has the distinction of manufacturing four varieties namely, mulberry, eri, tasar and muga silks. Karnataka accounts for 55.65 per cent of the silk yarn production of the country followed by Madhya Pradesh (40.48%), Tamil Nadu (2.42%) and Punjab (1.45%).

Karnataka is the largest producer of silk in India. The state produces an average of around 8,200 metric tonnes of silk every year, which is about 50% of the total silk production in India. Mysore and North Bengaluru in Karnataka are famous for their silks and are called the “Silk City” as they majorly contribute to the silk production in India.

भारत दुनिया में रेशम (चीन के बाद) का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा उत्पादक है और इसे चार किस्मों, शहतूत, एरी, टसर और मुगा रेशम के निर्माण का गौरव प्राप्त है। कर्नाटक में देश के रेशम यार्न उत्पादन का 55.65 प्रतिशत हिस्सा है, इसके बाद मध्य प्रदेश (40.48%), तमिलनाडु (2.42%) और पंजाब (1.45%) का स्थान आता है।

कर्नाटक भारत में रेशम का सबसे बड़ा उत्पादक है। राज्य हर साल औसतन लगभग 8,200 मीट्रिक टन रेशम का उत्पादन करता है, जो भारत में कुल रेशम उत्पादन का लगभग 50% है। कर्नाटक में मैसूर और उत्तरी बेंगलुरु अपने रेशम के लिए प्रसिद्ध हैं और उन्हें “सिल्क सिटी” कहा जाता है क्योंकि वे भारत में रेशम उत्पादन में प्रमुख योगदान देते हैं।
