Cooperative farming has succeeded only in countries with totalitarian government. It was at its best in the former USSR (now Russia). Cooperative farming was practised there in the form of collective farming in which member-owners engaged jointly in farming activities. There were both kolkhozy (cooperative-run type) and sovkhozy (state-run type) cooperatives. The collective farms were highly mechanized and the machine tractor stations, maintained by the state, played a crucial role in the success of these farms / सहकारी खेती केवल अधिनायकवादी सरकार वाले देशों में ही सफल हुई है। यह पूर्व सोवियत संघ (अब रूस) में अपने सर्वश्रेष्ठ स्तर पर था। वहां सामूहिक खेती के रूप में सहकारी खेती की जाती थी जिसमें सदस्य-मालिक संयुक्त रूप से कृषि गतिविधियों में लगे रहते थे। कोल्खोज़ी (सहकारी-संचालित प्रकार) और सोवखोज़ी (राज्य-संचालित प्रकार) दोनों सहकारी समितियाँ थीं। सामूहिक फार्म अत्यधिक यंत्रीकृत थे और राज्य द्वारा अनुरक्षित मशीन ट्रैक्टर स्टेशनों ने इन फार्मों की सफलता में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।
