Ibn Battuta, the famous Moroccan traveler, visited India during the reign of Muhammad bin Tughluq. Muhammad bin Tughluq was renowned as the wealthiest man in the Muslim World at that time. He patronized various scholars, sufis, qadis, viziers and other functionaries in order to consolidate his rule. On the strength of his years of study in Mecca, Ibn Batuta was appointed a qazi, or judge, by the sultan. He found it difficult to enforce Islamic laws beyond the sultan’s court in Delhi, due to lack of Islamic appeal in India. /मोरक्को के प्रसिद्ध यात्री इब्न बतूता मुहम्मद बिन तुगलक के शासनकाल के दौरान भारत आए थे। मुहम्मद बिन तुगलक उस समय मुस्लिम जगत के सबसे धनी व्यक्ति के रूप में प्रसिद्ध थे। उसने अपने शासन को मजबूत करने के लिए विभिन्न विद्वानों, सूफियों, क़ादिस, वज़ीरों और अन्य पदाधिकारियों को संरक्षण दिया। मक्का में अपने वर्षों के अध्ययन के बल पर, इब्न बतूता को सुल्तान द्वारा काजी, या न्यायाधीश नियुक्त किया गया था। भारत में इस्लामी अपील की कमी के कारण उन्हें दिल्ली में सुल्तान के दरबार से परे इस्लामी कानूनों को लागू करना मुश्किल लगा।
