Mycobacteriumleprae, the causative agent of leprosy, was discovered by G. H. Armauer Hansen in Norway in 1873. Hansen observed a number of nonrefractile small rods in unstained tissue sections. The rods were not soluble in potassium lye, and they were acid- and alcohol-fast. In 1879, he was able to stain these organisms with Ziehl’s method and the similarities with Koch’s bacillus (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) were noted. / माइकोबैक्टीरियमलेप्रे, कुष्ठ रोग के प्रेरक एजेंट की खोज 1873 में नॉर्वे में जी.एच. आर्मौअर हैनसेन द्वारा की गई थी। हैनसेन ने बिना दाग वाले ऊतक वर्गों में कई गैर-अपवर्तक छोटी छड़ें देखीं। छड़ें पोटेशियम लाइ में घुलनशील नहीं थीं, और वे एसिड- और अल्कोहल-फास्ट थे। 1879 में, वह इन जीवों को ज़िहल की विधि से दागने में सक्षम था और कोच के बेसिलस (माइकोबैक्टीरियम ट्यूबरकुलोसिस) के साथ समानताएं नोट की गईं।
