Kanchipuram was mentioned in the Mahabhasya, written by Patanjali in the 2nd century BC. / पल्लवों ने दूसरी से नौवीं शताब्दी ईस्वी के बीच उत्तरी तमिलनाडु और दक्षिणी आंध्र प्रदेश के क्षेत्रों पर शासन किया। कांचीपुरम ने चौथी से नौवीं शताब्दी तक पल्लव साम्राज्य की राजधानी के रूप में कार्य किया। इसे इसके पूर्व नामों कांचियामपति, कांजीवरम और उपनाम “हजारों मंदिरों का शहर” के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। कांचीपुरम का उल्लेख दूसरी शताब्दी ईसा पूर्व में पतंजलि द्वारा लिखित महाभाष्य में किया गया था।
