The instrument which uses sound waves to measure the depth of oceans is sonar. Sound waves can travel much faster from one point to another.
Sound waves are far more accurate for measuring these vast distances. Sonar may be used as a means of acoustic location and of measurement of the echo characteristics of “targets” in the water. Sonar may also be used in air for robot navigation, and SODAR is used for atmospheric investigations. / समुद्र की गहराई मापने के लिए ध्वनि तरंगों का प्रयोग करने वाला यंत्र सोनार है। ध्वनि तरंगें एक बिंदु से दूसरे बिंदु तक बहुत तेजी से यात्रा कर सकती हैं। इन विशाल दूरियों को मापने के लिए ध्वनि तरंगें कहीं अधिक सटीक हैं। सोनार का उपयोग ध्वनिक स्थान के साधन के रूप में और पानी में “लक्ष्य” की प्रतिध्वनि विशेषताओं के मापन के लिए किया जा सकता है। सोनार का उपयोग रोबोट नेविगेशन के लिए हवा में भी किया जा सकता है, और सोडार का उपयोग वायुमंडलीय जांच के लिए किया जाता है।
