history of the park
Spread over an area of about 40 square kilometers, this national park is a major part of Loktak Lake. Around the year 1953, this park was known as the Sangai Deer Preserve. But, in the year 1966 it was declared as a National Sanctuary and after some years its name was declared as Keibul Lamjao National Park. Although people used to hunt animals before it was declared a national sanctuary, it was later banned.
A sanctuary has been formed by combining small islands. This sanctuary was so big that at times it was also made smaller so that the animals could be taken care of properly. It is said that researchers from all over the world keep coming to see the structure of the sanctuary, how a park exists in the middle of the water. For your information, let us tell you that Loktak Lake / Loktak Lake is the only lake in the world that appears to be floating.
Animals and flora in the park
Animals and birds can be seen in this park. It has more than 1000 animals and birds including Black Drongos, Jungle Crow, Yellow-headed Wagtail, Wild Boar, Bro Antelier, Cobra, Python, Asian Rat Snake and Water Cobra. Talking about flora, this park is known for more than 450 varieties of orchids and more than 100 aquatic flora.
About the location and timing
Apart from this national park, there are one of the best places to visit around. One can also visit the best and beautiful places like Kangla Fort, Shaheed Minar, Manipur Zoological Garden etc. Here you can go for a walk anytime between 9 am to 5 pm. The best time to visit this park is considered to be between October and March.

उद्यान का इतिहास
लगभग 40 वर्ग मिलोमीटर क्षेत्र में फैला हुआ ये राष्ट्रीय उद्यान लोकतक झील का एक प्रमुख हिस्सा है। तक़रीबन साल 1953 के आसपास इस पार्क को संगाई हिरण की रक्षा के के रूप में जाना जाता था। लेकिन, वर्ष 1966 में इसे राष्ट्रिय अभयारण्य के रूप में घोषित किया और कुछ वर्षों बाद इसका नाम केयबुल लामजाओ राष्ट्रीय उद्यान घोषित कर दिया गया। हालांकि, राष्ट्रिय अभयारण्य घोषित करने से पहले लोग जानवरों का शिकार करते थे लेकिन, बाद में इस पर पावंदी लगा दी गई।
छोटे-छोटे टापू को मिलाकर एक अभयारण्य का निर्माण किया गया है। ये अभयारण्य इस्तना बड़ा था की कई बार इसे छोटा भी किया गया ताकि सही से जानवरों की देखभाल किया जा सके। कहा जाता है कि अभयारण्य की बनावट को देखने के लिए दुनिया भर में शोधकर्ताओं का आगमन लगा रहता है कि एक पार्क किस तरह पानी के बीचो-बीज मौजूद है। आपकी जानकारी के लिए बता दें कि लोकतक झील/लोकटक झील विश्व की एकलौती ऐसी झील है जो तैरती हुई दिखाई देती है।
पार्क में मौजूद पशु-पक्षी और वनस्पति
इस पार्क में एक से एक पशु-पक्षी देखने को मिलते हैं। इसमें ब्लैक ड्रोंगोस, जंगल क्रो, येलो हेडेड वैगेटल, जंगली सूअर, ब्रो एंटेलियर, कोबरा, पाइथन, एशियन रैट स्नेक और वाटर कोबरा सहित 1000 से भी अधिक पशु-पक्षी मौजूद है। वनस्पतियों की बात करें तो इस पार्क में लगभग 450 से अधिक किस्मों के ऑर्किड (एक तरह का फूल) और 100 से अधिक जलीय वनस्पतियों के लिए जाना जाता है।
आसपास की जगह और टाइमिंग के बारे में
इस राष्ट्रीय पार्क के अलावा आसपास घूमने के लिए एक से एक बेहतरीन जगहें हैं। कंगला फोर्ट, शहीद मीनार, मणिपुर जूलॉजिकल गार्डन आदि बेहतरीन और खूबसूरत जगहों पर भी घूमने के लिए जा सकते हैं। यहां आप सुबह 9 बजे से लेकर शाम 5 बजे के बीच कभी भी घूमने के लिए जा सकते हैं। इस उद्यान की यात्रा का सबसे अच्छा समय अक्टूबर और मार्च के बीच का समय समझा जाता है।
