Its shape resembles a tiny pine cone (hence its name), and it is located near the centre of the brain. / पीनियल ग्रंथि कशेरुक मस्तिष्क में एक छोटी अंतःस्रावी ग्रंथि है। यह सेरोटोनिन व्युत्पन्न मेलाटोनिन का उत्पादन करता है, एक हार्मोन जो जागने/नींद के पैटर्न और मौसमी कार्यों के मॉड्यूलेशन को प्रभावित करता है। इसका आकार एक छोटे पाइन शंकु जैसा दिखता है (इसलिए इसका नाम), और यह मस्तिष्क के केंद्र के पास स्थित है।
