As per the 2001 Census, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, are predominantly tribal States /Union territories where Scheduled Tribes population constitutes more than 60% of their total population. No Scheduled Tribes is notified in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, and Pondicherry.

2001 की जनगणना के अनुसार, लक्षद्वीप, मिजोरम, नागालैंड, मेघालय, अरुणाचल प्रदेश, दादरा और नगर हवेली, मुख्य रूप से आदिवासी राज्य / केंद्र शासित प्रदेश हैं जहाँ अनुसूचित जनजातियों की आबादी उनकी कुल आबादी का 60% से अधिक है। पंजाब, चंडीगढ़, हरियाणा, दिल्ली और पांडिचेरी में कोई अनुसूचित जनजाति अधिसूचित नहीं है।
