STD service commissioned between Kanpur and Lucknow in 1960.Subscriber Trunk Dialing (STD) service, started in 1960, is now available in more than 19500 stations in the country. All the district headquarters and more than 97 per cent of the Sub divisional headquarters are having STD facility. International Subscriber Dialing Services started in 1976 between Mumbai and London is now available from every corner of the country to almost all the countries in the world.
Telecom was actually started in India in the 19th century, but after several stages in the 20th century, a revolution of very high speed was seen in the 21st century. STD service was started for the first time on 25 November 1960, when the first call was made under this service between Kanpur to Lucknow. Earlier there used to be a trunk call service.
