Vikramshila was founded by Pala king, Dharmapala in the late 8th or early 9th century. It prospered for about four centuries before it was destroyed by Bakhtiyar Khilji along with the other major centres of Buddhism in India around 1193 AD.
विक्रमशिला की स्थापना पाल राजा धर्मपाल ने 8वीं शताब्दी के अंत या 9वीं शताब्दी की शुरुआत में की थी। 1193 ईस्वी के आसपास भारत में बौद्ध धर्म के अन्य प्रमुख केंद्रों के साथ बख्तियार खिलजी द्वारा नष्ट किए जाने से पहले यह लगभग चार शताब्दियों तक समृद्ध रहा।
