In onions, the bulbs consist of very short stems with closely packed leaves arranged in concentric circles round the stem. These leaves are swollen with stored food. The inner leaves are fleshy while the outer ones are dry. This is called as tunicated bulb since the concentric leaf bases form a complete covering or tunic. /प्याज में, बल्बों में बहुत छोटे तने होते हैं, जो तने के चारों ओर गाढ़ा घेरे में व्यवस्थित होते हैं। संग्रहीत भोजन से ये पत्ते सूज जाते हैं। भीतरी पत्ते मांसल होते हैं जबकि बाहरी सूखे होते हैं। इसे ट्यूनिकेटेड बल्ब कहा जाता है क्योंकि गाढ़ा पत्ती के आधार एक पूर्ण आवरण या अंगरखा बनाते हैं।
