Andhra State was the first state that was created on linguistic basis for Telugu speaking people out of Madras State on October 1, 1953. This followed the long-drawn agitation and death of Potti Sriramulu after a hunger strike for 56 days. Then, the States Reorganisation Act 1956 formed Andhra Pradesh by merging Andhra State with the Telugu-speaking areas of the already existing Hyderabad State. / आंध्र राज्य पहला राज्य था जो 1 अक्टूबर, 1953 को मद्रास राज्य से तेलुगु भाषी लोगों के लिए भाषाई आधार पर बनाया गया था। इसके बाद 56 दिनों की भूख हड़ताल के बाद लंबे समय से चले आ रहे आंदोलन और पोट्टी श्रीरामुलु की मृत्यु हो गई। फिर, राज्य पुनर्गठन अधिनियम 1956 ने आंध्र प्रदेश को पहले से मौजूद हैदराबाद राज्य के तेलुगु भाषी क्षेत्रों के साथ मिलाकर आंध्र प्रदेश का गठन किया।
